About Healthy Shopping Tours
What are Healthy Shopping Tours?
Healthy shopping tours are a great way to learn more about food and healthy eating.
They include a 30 minute education session with an Accredited Practising Dietitian followed by a trip to a local supermarket to explore and learn about how to make the healthiest food choices. You’ll be provided with educational tools, tips and tricks and leave feeling confident.
Participants are required to be able to walk around the supermarket for up to an hour and it is requested that those with type 2 diabetes ensure they have eaten before they attend as to avoid their blood sugar level dropping too low.
Where do they happen?
Healthy Shopping Tours are run state wide in Tasmania through the Diabetes Assist funding.
There are monthly session run in Launceston, Hobart and on the northwest (Burnie and Devonport).
Do they cost anything?
No, Healthy Shopping Tours run by Diabetes Tasmania are free of charge.
What will I learn?
In a nutshell, you will become supermarket savvy and never look at product shelves in the same way again! You'll cut through the clutter and the attention grabbing claims to more quickly determine whether a foodstuff is for you.
Who can come along?
Anyone can be involved in a Healthy Shopping Tour. It is ideal for those who are newly diagnosed or anyone wanting a bit more information on healthy eating. If you are a carer for someone with type 2 diabetes this can be a useful session to help you feel confident about making the right food choices for them.
How do I get involved?
