Diabetes is a chronic disease that has attained unprecedented levels in several regions of the world. Despite significant advances in pharmacy chemistry, conventional healers are still a popular procedure in the care of diabetes. Sambung, also recognized as a ‘life extender,’ is a sturdy perennial of the Asteraceae family in which daisies belong and contains many plants beneficial to humans. German chamomile, sunflower, dandelion, St. Mary’s thistle, and calendula. The bush can develop 30cm to 100cm tall, and the plant is beneficial since the oval-shaped leaves to 10cm long have a very dense, fleshy texture and may drag down the stems. The roots are green and may have purple tones, and the leaves may also have purple shades. 

Sambung can be promulgated from seeds and cuttings and grown in a bucket-sized pot or a greenhouse. In Nambour, in the subtropical climate of South East Queensland, plants want a little shade. In cold and temperate regions, the plant may need to be handled as a seasonal plant with seed preserved for growing in the following season.

The plant is widely recognized in South East Asia, with traditional medicinal purposes in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, and leaves are also consumed in salads. Leaves have a slight taste and can be utilized raw in salads,  in soups, stir-fries, n condiments and sauces, rice meals, and other delicious dishes. And when it develops well and leaves are in abundance, they are fed to laying hens or produce some of the plants in the poultry forage scheme.

Samsung comprises asparaginase as well. Asparaginase is an enzyme that has been shown to reduce acrylamide content in the body. Studies claim that acrylamides are used as cancer-causing compounds formed when certain foods are fried, cooked, grilled, or baked. Acrylamides have also been detected in foods cultivated in mineral-free soils.

Sambung Leaves
